Lanai Road Elementary School

Lanai Road Elementary School in the Los Angeles Unified School District initially looked for a visitor management system to streamline visitor check-ins due to the time it was taking for their office staff. Since implementing Sign In App, they’ve decreased the check-in time from minutes to seconds, as well as improving campus safety. In addition, after sadly being affected by the LA wildfires earlier this year, Sign In App helped them safely evacuate everybody off of campus. 

We caught up with Lanai Road Elementary School's Community Representative to learn more about their experience… 

Why did you originally look for a visitor management system?

In the public education sector, as everybody knows, we're often underfunded or barely funded. One of the challenges that faced our school was we have a very involved parent group, and we also have a lot of visitors. All that was being managed by two office staff. Every time somebody walked in the door, it was a 2 to 3 minute encounter for them to fill people in, check ID, register people, and we decided that we needed a better solution… enter Sign In App.

How has Sign In App improved your visitor management process?

At the beginning, we deployed one kiosk, and we're now expanding to two because we’ve seen how much it’s increased our efficiency in the office as well as security on campus - we've reduced that encounter to down from 2 to 3 minutes to about 30 to 45 seconds per encounter. And for frame of reference, we just received our statistics and for the last three months of the year, we had 2500 people coming in and out of our campus. So you can imagine the radical impact it had on our productivity because we were able to re-claim that amount of time with our staff.

In addition to the time saved, what other challenges did you face that Sign In App has helped solve?

Well, as everybody who has children is probably aware, school used to be the place that was considered incredibly safe. And nowadays, we have a different environment and parents want to make sure that when their students are on campus, they know that the other people that are on campus are meant to be there. Sign In App gives us the ability to provide confidence to our parents that we have full control over each and every individual that is on our campus at any given time.

In addition, we sadly were, thrilled to have Sign In App as we were forced to evacuate our school, in a somewhat rapid manner, due to the LA wildfires earlier this year. Sign In App provided us with confidence that we had everybody safely off of campus. The very first thing that happened is the phone lines were knocked out. Although we were unable to use the tool as intended, we were still able to access reports on the backend offline, and effectively evacuate everybody off campus. Sign In App actually did save lives.

What has your experience been like working with the Sign In App team?

The Sign In App team is fabulous. It was difficult for us at the beginning because we felt like such a small entity that was diving into a larger corporation, but they were they treated us with the care and respect that I'm sure they treat all their enterprise customers with too. 

And the fact that staff is located all around the world - I could send in tickets at 3am my time, and I was always supported. My questions were always answered, including when I made mistakes and, as we all do, learn - Sign In App’s customer support could not have been more helpful.
